Oh! What to wear?

Your photographs are an investment. They are a snapshot of what you looked like, how tiny your kids were, time spent with people that won’t be around for ever. So I strongly recommend you also invest a little time and money in what you wear. Well chosen outfits can enhance a great image even further and really make your photographs ‘pop’.

When being photographed as a group, it is important to avoid logos, stripes or large patterns that will detract from the faces of the subjects. It’s helpful to dress everyone in a similar TONE rather than all the same colour.

Coordinate, but not too matchy matchy.

Chose two or three colours and style within those colours. If you’re stuck for inspiration, check out Pinterest (and get seriously lost in there!)

My favourite combos are blues and whites, greys and mustard yellows or burgundy, navy and grey. Try to combine block colours and patterns; but be careful as too much pattern can be overkill! Adding accessories and layers; a scarf, a gorgeous necklace or layers that can be removed, like a cardi or jacket.

The details really make a difference too – paint your nails, have a hair cut the week before and polish off those scuff marks from your shoes.

WOMEN

Wear whatever makes you feel confident and what you love.

We can arrange a lovely make-up stylist if you wish and I always love getting my hair washed and blow dried the day before or on the day.

  • The more skin you show, the heavier you tend to appear.

  • 3/4 length sleeves and V-necklines tend to flatter most body types.

  • You can get away with drawing more attention to your top with a dramatic necklace or detailed blouse/jacket

  • Dark rinse jeans or black pants can be flattering.

  • A V-neck is your friend - simple, clean-lined tops.

  • If you have great legs, show them off!

  • Wear clothing that fits–not too tight and not too baggy (obvs!)

  • A killer pair of heels will lengthen your legs.

MEN

  • A sport coat over a button down gives structure to your body and hides a few kilos :)

KIDS

  • Layered looks give us options to try items on/of.

  • Personality Plus: If you have a girlie-girl, let her be dressy. Let the Tom Boy be her sporty/preppie self. If you have a Poindexter, let him rock a bow tie, while his Skater/Surfer little bro. can work his Vans.

Oh and don’t forget your hairbrush and make up for touchups!

Happy Styling! x
